"Especially during Season 4 I grew very fond of Rossi, but even during the first episode with him I was glad they did not make him a Gideon copy but a new and different character. I found it wonderful that they made him a bit of a loner who had difficulties getting used to team work - fit beautifully considering his background as a solo profiler."
I agree, it was great to make Rossi the exact opposite to the rest of the team. You could really see how he changed over the third season and became an integral part of the team.

True. It's interesting seeing another type of the character as the team leader. ^_^ 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

It really is. Though Rossi's a different type of team leader than Gideon was. You rarely notice that he's their superior. Though that could have something to do with the fact that the team member have grown and is able to work together without anyone leading them. Anyway, he's more part of the team than Gideon was. I agree, I think they are becoming more cohesive and are able to work together more then be led by any one person.

Are you saying that Rossi is the team leader? Or is team leader different from unit leader?

I didn't start watching until April of this year, but I have seen all the episodes except season 4 from Sept through March .

In the episode where Rossi returned Strauss told him that he would not replace Aaron as team leader, but would be subordinate to him.

I see the story line - not the episodes - this way (correct me if I'm wrong).
1. Rossi is team leader and retires.
2. Jason becomes team (unit) leader.
3. Aaron joins the team.
4. Jason leaves.
5. Aaron becomes unit leader.
6. Rossi returns but Aaron remains unit leader.

Well, I think Hotch was already the unit chief, even when Gideon was part of the team... actually, Jason was just a senior agent, but was so an important and strong character, with so a great experience that he seemes to behave more like a second team leader... but, in my opinion, he never wanted to be *the* chief, as he and Hotch always collaborated and deeply respected each other, as they knew each other since many years.

I've never thought about it before, but... Gideon was famous because of the Bale case (S1E01), but Rossi is even more famous because of his books and, more importantly, he was the forerunner of the BAU, and the fact that he returns and is willing to be a simply agent is a great point in his favour!

I'm not sure, but I can't remember it was said that Rossi was team leader. I think in the early days there were no real team (as Rossi stated that they would go after UnSubs alone). Plus Hotch must have joined the team before Rossi left, after all it was shown that the two of them were pretty familiar with each other when Rossi returned. Gideon was the team leader, but Hotch was technically his superior (even though the most decisions in the field were made by Gideon). And when Rossi returned he excepted not to be the unit chief, but he seems to be the team leader. So for me unit chief and team leader are two different positions.

I love Rossi. I think he was a little uneasy at first. Things had changed since he had helped start the unit. But he has made the adjustment. I loved Gideon, but I don't think losing him as harmed the show. Rossi is not Gideon, but he is great in his own way. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm sorry, but I really don't like him. I mean, I've gotten used to him, but his character seems very conceited and rude at times.
I really miss Gideon. I mean, he was an amazing actor and a tremendous character that contributed many great aspects to the show.

Sorry Rossi fans, I just don't like him.

Agreed, well, I honestly don't mind Rossi as much anymore. He seems to be growing into the team and not forcing himself into it. Very interesting to watch the group dynamics shift and change.

I don't care for JM near as much as I did MP. Is it true what I read that MP left because he said there was too much violence on the show??? Do you find this valuable?

Makes sense, I mean, seriously, would he really say something like "I want to leave the show because I'm getting bored with it?" I don't think so, I'd say violence would be a good excuse...not saying it wasn't true, just that there were other factions we don't know about, I"m sure.

No, I agree, violence was one of the reasons why he left for sure. But there had to be more, cause you don't just quit the day the shooting of the new season starts, especially if you already agreed to do another year. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
