I could've sworn....

I could've sworn Joe Montegna said "Lucille Maud Montgomery" instead of the correct "Lucy Maud Montgomery" at the end of tonight's episode. Did anyone else notice this? 9  out of 11 found this valuable. Do you?

Didn't notice. Maybe he slurred the Lucy into the Maud, so it sounded like that? I did think it was cool that they used her to quote from. She's one of my favorite authors and I love the varied sources the show gets its quotes from. 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

You're absolutely right. I heard it too, and my roommate rewound it just to be sure. Guess Joe Montegna isn't the Anne of Green Gables type, huh? *grin* 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I guess both Joe Montegna AND the Criminal Minds writers aren't very familiar with our famous Canadian Authoress, LucY Maud Montgomery. (And Lucy Maud loathed her first name Lucy, so in her personal life went by the name of Maud. Wonder what she would've thought of being referred to as LucILLE???)

You are correct. I just rewatched "Limelight" and Rossi did say "Lucille". Maybe they thought Lucy was short for Lucille. ;) Do you find this valuable?

Yeah, except Lucy Maud herself LOATHED the name Lucy, which was her legal given name (not Lucille), and went by Maud in her private life. So I suspect she wouldn't have liked being erroneously referred to as "Lucille" either! When you read some of her diaries (published), you discover she was a quite opinionated person who did not suffer fools gladly. :-)

LM Montgomery's name was NOT in fact Lucille Maud Montgomery, it was in fact Lucy Maud Montgomery. I've read her published journals, read biographical books and articles about her, etc etc. She was born Lucy Maud, but preferred to be referred to as 'Maud',; she was not very fond of 'Lucy' as a name.

For more information, check these sources out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_Maud_Montgomery

I understand that usually Lucy is a shortened 'nick name' for Lucille, but that was not the case for LM Montgomery.

I stand corrected!!!!!...after further research I discovered her name is Lucy Maud Montgomery...like so many others I'm sure, I assumed Lucy is short for Lucille, but as you so eloquently pointed out, in this instance, it's not the case.

He CLEARLY said "Lucille". I thought it was very strange too...Lucy Maude Montgomery (L. M. Montgomery) wrote Anne of Green Gables. Do you find this valuable?

Yes, I JUST watched it and wanted to write down the quote. He said "Lucille" instead of "Lucy" for SURE! I didn't even know it was a mistake until I found this Website. Thanks for the correction! Do you find this valuable?
