3rd Life

Synopsis:
The Behavioral Analysis Unit profiles a serial killer who abducts two teenagers, murders one and threatens to kill the other if they don't stop him in time.

Best Moments Between Characters:
  • When Katie's father was in denial; the other father comforted him.
  • The final scene when Reid was trying to talk Vaughn out of killing Ryan but he does it anyway. Reid is shocked and Morgan reassures him by putting his hand on Reid's shoulder.

Best Lines:
  • Mannan: "You know, you have no idea who or what you're dealin with here."
Hotch: "Then enlighten me or stay out of my way."

  • Jack Vaughan: "Can I help you?"
Reid: (caught at Vaughan’s computer) "Ah, hey, I was just, ah, checking to see if Lindsey contacted anyone on the internet? Predators, ah, tend to do that."
    Jack Vaughan: "Is that right?"
Reid: (talking very fast) "Yeah, statistically, actually, 43% of predators..."
Jack Vaughan: "Lindsey doesn’t like computers."
    Reid: "Oh...cool!"

  • Jack Vaughan: "This is just a normal household!"
Rossi: "Actually, it doesn't look like much of a normal house at all."

  • Mannan: "We got to find him, fast."
Reid: (Mapping out the area) "What do you think I'm doing?"
    Mannan: "Coloring in a map."

The turning point in the investigation:
When they find the 3rd unsub dead; Garcia does a run on his identity and they discover he's from a local high school. The team realizes he tried to back out of the abduction but the other 2 unsubs stabbed him and thought he'd run to the police. The killed Katie and dumped her body and moved Lindsey elsewhere, unaware that Doug was dead. Garcia also comes across videos that Katie did and she mentioned Ryan's name.

Whodunit?

cbk64 finally the writers didn't go with this higher road crap (page: 1 2) 24 Mar 9 2009, 1:32 PM EDT by Garciafan

thank you writers for not doing the right thing crap you had Reid blubbering about, just because he's Reid doesn't make him know everything about every father and daughter out there. if anything I was hoping that Jack Vaughan would shoot Reid to shut him up. This guy and his friends just kidnapped two girls kill one, then kill one of the rapists because things had gotten out of hand. He is now about to rape and kill Lindsey when her father shows up, the guy got lucky Reid was there so he got a quick death. I liked the character of Jack Vaughan and his daughter and I'd like to see them again if they are not written as victims. I'm a father and am happy I have a son because if I had a daughter I would have done exactly what Katie's father did telling Jack Vaughan about the kids and I probably would have done what Jack Vaughan did too. I don't know what real cops are like but I don't know why they have to write stories where they try harder to catch a victim who goes after the killer then the killer who was some one like Charles Manson, Bundy etc.

I have to admit; I loved how they just jumped right into the Crime Scene. Reid got some great air time but it was truly nice to see how the entire team got good air time! This episode bumps up into one of my favorites; it was very well done.

What blew my mind was that when Lindsey got up and shut off the water, the unsub approached her and taunted her; claimed she didn't know him. But he kept telling her to shut up and she'd never spoken a word! But my favorite scene was when Rossi, Morgan and Reid drew their guns on the US Marshall. I loved that Reid is more comfortable holding his gun; he doesn't look awkward with it anymore and he held it like the other two did.

It was a great dynamic watching Hotch and Prentiss pairing up in the beginning. They worked off each other and pieced things together while standing in front of the movie theater. And later when Prentiss kicked some door butt and then they cut to Rossi going in, that was really great. The Morgan walking up the stairs and they flashing to Hotch doing it; it was very well done.

The scene where Hotch and Prentiss talked to the 3rd unsub, Doug Silverman's dad had my heart in my throat. You could see the father knew what they were going to tell him and the eye contact between the father and Hotch.... Same as with the scene when the parents had to hear the phone call.

The scenes with the 2 dads was also riveting. Comforting one another and then when Katie's dad went to Jack to ask him if he was still capable of doing what he did. You knew what he was asking and it took a lot for him to do that and call on friendship to ask it of him.

    Just an amazing episode.

According to TV.com, and a few other places, this new episode, "3rd Life" is scheduled to air on Wednesday, January 9th!! Let's hope so.... although once they air these last 2 episodes, not that it's bad, but we'll have nothing new to look forward to for months. If the writer's strike doesn't end in the next month or two, we'll have nothing until September. That's a long time to wait for our crime fighting heroes to come back!
