Season: 3 Episode # 10 Original Air Date: November 28, 2007

True Night

Synopsis:
A famous comic book artist becomes involved in the search for a serial killer in Los Angeles.

Best Moments Between Characters:
  • Right after Garcia entered her office for the first time after being shot, and Morgan offered to stay with her and help rearrange it.

Best Lines:
  • Jonny McHale: (to Bobby Kim, his agent) "You think we work together? I'm the talent, you're the leech."

  • Reid: "Sometimes, for an artist, the only difference between insanity and genius is success."

  • JJ: "I couldn't imagine having nothing left of someone but a voice message. I don't think I'd ever stop listening to it."

    • Garcia: "Kevin Lynch, you may be cute, but if you ever mess with my stuff again…"

    • Morgan: (on the phone with Garcia) "Just leave it alone until I get there. Hey, hey, hardhead. Don't make me spank you when I get back."
Reid: "Don't listen to him Garcia, he's all talk." (Morgan smacks Reid's head) "Ow! JJ, he just hit me!"
JJ: "Boys, behave or I will ground you both. "

    • Det. Brady: You really think this is only one guy, huh?
Reid: The level of overkill suggests an unsub in a psychotic break. Multiple unsubs in violent psychotic breaks operating in the exact same location is exceedingly unlikely.
(Det. Brady has confused look on his face)
Morgan: Yeah, it's probably one guy.

    • "The noir hero is a knight in blood-caked armor. He's dirty and he does his best to deny the fact that he's a hero the whole time." (Garcia quotes Frank Miller)

    • Jonny McHale: (voiceover) "No one sees True Night – what’s really there in the dark. It’s not that they can’t see, they simply don’t. They feel an elemental force that scares them to the deepest reaches of their minds, but they refuse to see the actual source. Something watching them just out of their reach. Something cold and frightened. Something inhuman."

The turning point in the investigation:
After JJ's press conference stating the profile, several people who knew Jonny (his agent, a few fans, a woman who witnessed him being hit by a car) called in to the tip line about him.

    Whodunit?
Jonny McHale, a graphic novelist suffering from a psychotic break as a result of severe PTSD stemming from when he witnessed his fiancee's rape and murder.

In all the series i have followed i always love the episodes where they give the opposite perspective. In M.A.S.H there was the episode done in the wounded soldier's perspective. Here it was done in the UnSubs perspective it was an amazing job how they conveyed the world being confused and psychotic really one of my faves

I have loned this show since day one. But this episode was a disapointment. Seemed to jump around to quick and not much of a chase. How did they know where the kid was? Seemed to be aimed at a much younger viewer into violent vidio games. Hope the strike ends soon !

What was the music playing in the opening scene? That's all I was thinking about during the first half of the show.
