Season: 3 Episode # 8 Original Air Date: November 14, 2007

Lucky
Synopsis:
The BAU pursues a serial killer in Florida who appears to practice the occult and satanism. Garcia believes she has met her dream man, but her first date with him doesn't go exactly as she had expected.

Best Moments Between Characters:
  • When Morgan shook hands with Father Marx as a sign of his apology for going off on him earlier.
  • The father talking to Rossi about his daughter.

Best Lines:
  • Morgan (to Garcia): "Every morning you say 'I'll show you a good morning.' Spit it out."
    Garcia: "I hate Profilers."

  • Prentiss (to Morgan): "When a woman tells a man about her feelings, she doesn't want him to fix her. She wants him to shut up and listen."

The turning point in the investigation:
When Rossi saw the crime scene for one of the victims and realized part of it was "organized" and tidy and that is what is taught to patients when institutionalized in a psychiatric facility. When another victim was found who had been missing for 9 months, but only dead 72 hours, Hotch realized that the unsub had been freezing the bodies to eat.

Whodunit?
Floyd Feylinn Ferrell. He was a former psychiatric patient who was released when he turned 18. He had been institutionalized because he bit a huge chunk of flesh off his 9 month old sister. He would target athletic women because they had meat on their bones. He killed his victims within 72 hours, then froze them and ate some of them.

Goofs:
When Rossi is quoting "Inferno" by Dante he says "Lasciate ogni speranza ch'entrate," but it's really "Lasciate ogni speranza voi ch'entrate" (voi means you).

I have to admit, this episode left me speechless. Morgan took a lot of heat this episode from his conversations with Garcia, to his interactions with Rossi, to dealing with the Priest. He did resolve some of his issues with Father Marx and Rossi, but in light of how the episode ended, I think next week he will struggle that he wasn't able to make things right with Garcia before she was shot.

I cannot believe she was shot. My suspicion is that this James "Colby" Baylor guy, when he talked about luck when he brought her home, that HE is the initial guy that the doctor's were talking about in the beginning of the episode. One of the aides mentioned to him that he should change his name to "Lucky" and when he focused on that word with Garcia, it struck me that he was probably the psycho the doctor's released. I wonder why he targeted Garcia though?

It was interesting to see another side of Garcia as well. To talk about how guys like Morgan do not seek women like her out across a smoky bar. She as absolutely right. I wish when she'd tossed his phone number out at the end she'd left it there! :( But then, we wouldn't have next week's episode.

Lastly, the whole cannibalism thing - nasty! I am VERY glad that they did not air this episode the night before Thanksgiving! I wouldn't be eating my turkey otherwise.

I was re-watching this episode and I noticed something I didn't before; it's not a big deal but anyway since I'm Italian I thought it'd be good to point out a little mistake. When Rossi quotes the rhyme taken from the "Inferno" by Dante, he says "Lasciate ogni speranza ch'entrate" but it's not correct! The original version goes : "Lasciate ogni speranza voi ch'entrate" (voi means you).

I am on vacation, and I watched the show. It was awesome! I'll be working next week, but I hope Garcia is OK. Even Garcia noticed how FINE Shemar Moore is! She calls him hot stuff! Shemar Moore needs to be arrested for being so fine! The girls at the Supercenter want to give him mouth-to-mouth!
